They’ll bombard the coastal camps but they can’t do anything about the inland camps until they are ready to send Pikemen in to clean up the barbarians. One way to discourage the AI players from settling Australia is to leave the barbarian camps alone. If you can get to Australia before turn 700 you have a good chance of seizing the entire continent for yourself but you may have to attack a few friends in order to keep them from settling down there. The map just has to be absolutely saturated before the AI players start in Australia. In order to get an AI to start there I have to set up 18 or more AI opponents. Only once have I ever had my own starting place in Australia.
You Will Almost Never See a Civ Start in Australia If you’re lucky you’ll start off with 1 AI player next to Napoleon and you can watch them wear each other down while you build up your civilization. Napoleon is one of the worst for always attacking the human player. But some of them are more likely to attack you than others. I just park my warrior on a hill (preferably in forest or jungle) and let Napoleon waste his troops attacking me.Īll of the AI players will attack you as soon as they find your territory if you don’t have a strong army. I have learned through trial and error that I have to attack Napoleon as soon as possible in order to fight him to a stand still. Napoleon never fails to attack his closest neighbor. Maybe it’s a bug in the game because I have even set leaders to randomized personalities. Napoleon Always Attacks His Closest Neighbor The game designers obviously give the AI players extra resources to begin with to make the game more challenging for you but if you don’t anticipate these extra resources you’ll quickly be overwhelmed in a total AI game at Deity level. In addition to the extra settler they also start out with a scout, a worker, and 2-3 warriors.
I have never found an AI opponent who did not have 2 cities by the time I got to his territory (usually within the first 10 turns).
